Because of low blood cell counts, I was not eligible for my treatment yesterday. This was rescheduled for 9/18 (next Thursday) to give my body more time to recover. It is not uncommon after 4 successive treatments, to need a little break.
The good news is that my cancer tumor marker (CA-125) is back to normal indicating that the treatment is working!!
We are back in Concord, settling in for the school year. Emily is in middle school, which starts almost one hour earlier than elementary school!! She likes it and has friends at her middle school (Concord has 2 middle schools). The sixth graders go on an overnight trip next week to meet new friends at the school and do some team building and experiential learning. Hope for good weather!!
Nathaniel has a great 4th grade teacher and other than having a cold, is fine. He is settling into soccer and other activities at school.
It feels good to be back. Bill's father underwent surgery earlier in the week that went fine. We feel lucky in many ways.
I am hoping to get this cancer into remission and finish my treatments by Halloween. Thanks for helping me to hang in. I am more than half way through.
Love to all, Maura

I agree: You do need a break! This is good news. Your treatments are doing what they are supposed to be doing. And you don't sound like you feel sick, or anything of the kind! I have only positive energy and love to send your way. Hang in there. You're half-way through. Yeee Haaa! (That's supposed to sound like a cheer.....)
Much love, Kate
Hi Maura,
It's been a while since I logged on. It's good to hear that you are responding and the allergic reaction is behind you. I hope you are enjoying the beautiful weather.
Chrissy is now a sophomore, Mark is in 7th and will be at Camp Kiev the 24th -26th, Molly is making her way to the fifth grade and playing saxophone.
I can't believe how time flies. Molly is still growing her hair out for "Locks for Love".
Keep up the good work! We are rather busy with all the kids in different schools and I am off to a new career in Oct. I will stay in touch.
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers, God bless,
Sue
Maura, thanks so much for the update, I think it is good karma that you rest your body another week.
I have 17 students; 10 boys, 7 girls, and it has been a fun start of a new school year.
Karyn & Luke just returned from a week on Chappaquiddick ~ they had a great time.
Erika is taking a year off from Santa Barbara Dance Theater, however, she'll be dancing with some other groups while she continues to build her pilates clients.
Robert says hi.
Love to you and all,
Cassy

Maura: Great to hear that your CA125 has dropped. It was great to have dinner with you and Bill.
We just had a wonderful visit from my cousin Pete Saltonstall and his wife Tacie. We went on a bear watching expedition, fishing and a very cool flight onto Mt. McKinley. Lots of good stuff that we could try when you visit. beth makes a wonderful tour director.
There was a neat battle between a merlin and a flock of magpies in our yard today and a moose has apparently run off with our volleyball net. Lots of bunnies. Hope we have such excitement when you are here.

Maura:
Glad to hear that your CA125 has dropped.
We had a good time seeing you for dinner and will look forward to seeing you at Thanksgiving, Post Chemo!
We just had a wonderful visit with my Cousin Pete and his wife Tacie. Lots of great adventures including Bear viewing, fishing ad a really cool flight that landed on a glacier on Mt. McKinley. Beth makes a wonderful tour director. Good dry run for your visit next year.
Lots of wildlife action in the yard. A battle between a merlin and a flock of magpies, lots of bunnies and a moose appears to have taken off with our volleyball net.
Hope you will get to se some of this.
Take care, best to Bill and kids.

Hi Maura,
Finally found my password so I can log in again. (Too many passwords to remember.) Great news on your tumor marker!!!I can't believe you're aiming for Halloween to be done with this -- that's just around the corner. Will you have a big Halloween party to celebrate?Glad to hear Emily and Nathaniel are happy to be back at school and have fun things in store. How is Bill? Please give my wishes for a speedy recovery to his Dad! Hope to talk to you soon.
Lots of love,
Gay
Hi Maura,
I'm so sorry for all that you are going through right now. These little set backs are upsetting but I can see that you have your attention on what really matters - a good end result. I too had an issue with blood counts last spring during chemo. Although my treatment wasn't delayed, I ended up in the hospital for a couple of days. And this happened the day before the Chest's first ever online auction that I was responsible for!!! Luckily things were in place for the auction, but that old adage "there's never a good time to be sick" sure was true for me.
Everyone here is thinking about you and knowing you will be well again soon. Just getting through the chemo and its side effects is something you will eventually feel proud of.
Take good care,
Stephanie (whose hair is now 1/2 inch long!!)
What a lovely letter from Stephanie!
That was so uplifting and hopeful and sweet to share
--best wishes to Stephanie and Maura!
hopefully I'll be seeing Maura this weekend
I need a Maura fix! and she'll be dragging I'm sure, from thursdays chemo...
brave the world!
