Bill and I are back from a long day at the hospital. It appears that my lung situation is stable. In fact, the doctor even said that it looked good!! I am planning to start the standard chemotherapy on Monday 6/16. It will be a 5-1/2 hour experience every 3 weeks. I will follow a pretty well proven regime of chemotherapy- Taxol and Carboplatin. Until I start, if I will have side effects and which ones will affect me when. She said to expect the second week to be the tired one. Otherwise, I should feel pretty good (as I do now). I am disinclined to participate in a clinical trial forAvastin and Erlotinib (two molecular agents which inhibit the growth of blood vessels). I guess my true nature of going with the proven agents is coming through. I intend to pursue complementary therapies of an Eastern sort, including acupuncture for nausea, yoga and Reiki for relaxation and strength. I want to maintain a positive outlook throughout since my healing has gone well to date. I think we are both feeling fairly optimistic at this point. Enjoy the weekend and take me off your worry list. It may not be the best summer but I will be fine!

Dear Maura,
Bill, Claire and I (and to the extent he understands, Peter, too) are overjoyed by your news - and remain forever impressed with how thorough you are - although how could we expect anything less of you! Your outline of your plan for the summer sounds so complete and balanced - wonderful! The tone in your blog is so inspiring - has lead to a deep sigh of relief on this end.
Of course, we're here to assist with any chemo trips and/or to keep you company through any of your sessions.
And congrats to Bill, Emily, and Nathaniel for all they have done to help you heal so well - they're great!!
Thinking of you and so very appreciative of your blog update.
Lots of love,
Susan
Glad you have a plan now and glad to hear that your lungs are stable. Good luck with this. We look forward to hearing that it is going well. If attitude and energy mean anything you are off to a good start. Look forward to seeing you in late August.

Very glad to hear your stable news. It sounds as though all is progressing as planned, which is good. We are all optimistic, too. And, thank you, Maura, for keeping us posted. That is very thoughtful and generous of you.
Much love (again!), Kate
P.S. You must be getting sick of all my "blogs," but I do love writing them. Love to all!
Dear Maura,
I sure do believe that attitude and energy mean just about everything.....and, Maura, you have a boatload of both! I really admire my sister-in-law. Keep up the good vibes, and so shall we!
Again, love you Maura, Kate
Hi Maura, Bill, Emily and Nathaniel,
I think you were brilliant to create this blog for your Mom, Nathaniel! What a nice thing to do. I have finally (duh) figured out how to post. But how do you add photos? I have some nice ones of you and your Mom at the museum. And I want to see Maura's wigs. Are you going to try blond? Redhead? Maybe pink spikes for a change?
Congrats on your positive report from the doctor, Maura. I'm sure no one ever recovered from major surgery faster than you are! Keep up the good work.
Hugs to all,
GayG
Good Day my Dear Maura,

Maura,
I found your blog today, so I'm reponding to this dated one in hindsight. You have a game plan that will work, I absolutely have no doubt. Pro-activeness wins out.
I hope your day at the garden show was wonderful. (06/07/08) The Cape is burgeoning with leaves and flowers, it almost smells like summer. June 20th is solstice, hard to believe.
My best,
Cassy
Maura,
I am not sure if you remember me, Deb Hatchard. My son Brett was part of your "Pet Club" for a bit. I just wanted to say hello and let you know that I am thinking of you. I am glad to hear that you are feeling well.
All my best,
Deb
